The Composition 2020.00 (Iklectik Voixxe) podcast features a selection of work by some the leading composers of 20th century American and European avant-garde and experimental music - with compositions and performances by John Cage - Eric Dolphy - Morton Feldman - Arnold Schoenberg - Edgard Varèse - and Anton Webern.
Even though this music was composed for traditional instruments - and the sounds of the clarinet - bass clarinet - cello - flute - French horn - and piano will be heard - the combinations are radical - creating strange new and previously unheard harmonies and textures.
Some of this music was composed over a hundred years ago - yet it is still far reaching - it still pushes at the boundaries - and it is a sound world that is still unfamiliar - as if it was air from another planet.
It needs to be remembered - that each of these composers had an individual and original voice. They were not following trends or fashions - but were determined to follow their own path in the creation of a unique and distinct musical universe.
