about

Composition 2013.02 (Untitled) consists of short fading sounds - pitched at C1 - A1 - C2 - separated by periods of silence.

Composition 2013.04 (Untitled) consists of a continually repeating tone alternating with short fading sounds.

Composition 2014.05 (Untitled) is sparsely textured - and consists of short fading sounds separated by silence.

The use of repetition within the compositions of the Technological Artefacts album has an indirect connection to loop-based dance music such as techno. In some ways the compositions could be considered as evolved non-dance forms of techno - but ones that exists within a different cultural context - and along a different time continuum.

The term "technological artefacts" refers to objects (tools - machines - software - etc.) created by humans or other entities through the application of technical knowledge.

The distinction between what is naturally occurring and what is artificially created has been a matter of philosophical discourse for centuries. Technological artefacts - in this context - can be seen as extensions or modifications of nature. They challenge our understanding of what is "natural" and force us to reconsider the boundaries between the natural and the artificial.

From a posthumanist perspective - technological artefacts can be seen as extensions or enhancements of human capabilities. For example - eyeglasses extend our ability to see - and computers extend our cognitive capacities. This raises questions about the nature of humanity and the future of human evolution in tandem with technology.

Does technology determine our destiny, or do we have the free will to shape our technological future? Some believe that once a particular technology is introduced - certain societal changes inevitably follow - while others argue that humanity shapes the path of technological development based on choices and values.

In summary - while "technological artefacts" may seem like a straightforward term referring to man-made objects or tools - diving deeper philosophically opens a rich terrain of questions about humanity - nature - knowledge -ethics - and society. The way we engage with and reflect upon these artefacts can shape our understanding of the world and our place within it.
