The title - The Question Concern Technology - is from an essay by the German philosophy Martin Heidegger - the essay being one of the most influential works in the philosophy of technology. Written in 1954 - it delves into the nature and essence of technology - exploring its relationship with being - truth - and humanity.
Heidegger begins by stating that the essence of technology is not something we can easily uncover by merely examining technological devices or processes. Instead - he suggests that we must approach the question of technology philosophically - trying to understand its essence or nature.
The "Question Concerning Technology" is not a rejection or critique of technology in a conventional sense - but an invitation to think deeply about the essence of technology and its implications for our existence. Heidegger's reflections encourage readers to be mindful of the dominant mode of revealing and to remain open to other possibilities of being and of understanding the world.
